Amazon Region

The Amazon Region, known as "el Oriente", is an extremely diverse region located on the eastern portion of the country. Diverse, not only due to the enormous variety of plants, mammals, insects, fishes, birds and reptiles, but also the various indigenous inhabitants, landscapes, and its great cultural wealth. The Ecuadorian Upper Amazon Basin is home to several indigenous nations, each one with its own characteristic features such as language, customs and own Cosmo vision. Considered a natural treasure for the wealth it contains, the Amazon Rainforest is one of the last regions on the planet that, for its high levels of biological and cultural diversity, it is being considered as a strategic area to be preserved.
